The South Miami spot marks the latest expansion for the rapidly growing brand that started in Key Biscayne by a husband and wife who were craving homemade empanadas in Miami. In only a few years, it has since expanded to locations like downtown Miami, Aventura, Doral, and Fort Lauderdale.
From Beloved Spot in "The Key" to Area Powerhouse
Since launching its original location in 2019 at 180 Crandon Blvd. in Key Biscayne, the Empanada's has expanded throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties. The straightforward concept — handmade empanadas with creative fillings — has proven successful enough to open six locations in just a few years. The brand was founded by Mariana Schron of Buenos Aires and her husband, Santiago Pinera. They have Argentine roots and previously worked in catering in Argentina before launching the Empanada’s in Key Biscayne, and the rest is history.
Not Your Abuela's Empanadas — Salty, Sweet, and Everything in Between
While the spot serves classic empanadas like beef, ham, cheese, and chicken, the shop also offers creative combinations. The signature menu features the "Cheesy Pampa," stuffed with shredded meat, four Mexican-style cheeses, cheddar sauce, black beans, corn, bacon, and chimichurri sauce. Seafood lovers can order the "Salmon Philly" filled with salmon, scallions, cream cheese, dill weed, fennel seed, and cherry tomato.Vegetarian options include the "Capresse" with mozzarella, provolone, and parmesan cheeses, and the "Sweet Corn" with grated sweet corn, scallions, mozzarella cheese, provolone cheese, and béchamel sauce. The menu also features vegan options like the "Vegan Tofu Capri," made with tofu, cherry tomatoes, basil, vegan mozzarella cheese, and vegan cheddar cheese. Sweet empanadas include fillings like Nutella and brownie, Oreo cookies with vanilla cream, or the traditional Latin American combo of guava and cream cheese.
Each empanada comes branded with its filling type stamped into the dough to make it easy to choose. The South Miami location features the same modern look as its sibling locations, with menu boards and display cases showing off the day's offerings. The shop claims its empanadas stay hot for half an hour after preparation. The South Miami location joins the growing list of the Empanada's outposts across South Florida.
