Robert Burr, organizer of the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival, has been charged with aggravated battery on a person 65 or older (domestic violence related), which is a felony.

Burr, who with his wife and son, made the annual Rum Renaissance Festival a major event attracting thousands of spirits enthusiasts to Miami, was in an altercation with his 79-year old mother.
According to the Miami Herald, Burr intervened in a fight between his mother and his wife, when he "put both hands on his mother's shoulders and pushed her."
The police report dated May 30 states the elderly woman fell backward, "hitting her head on the wooden floor," breaking three bones in her left wrist.
Miami-Dade County Clerk records show that Burr was released on $15,000 bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 3.
When reached for comment, Burr told Short Order, "I'm not going to discuss the details of a pending legal matter, but what I can tell you is that the accusations are false and when all the fact are examined I will be fully vindicated."
Burr is also organizer of the Redland Riot Road Rallye and last year hosted his own tasting room at Tales of the Cocktail in New Orleans.
