Well, considering that Iron Fork and the Miami Spice Kickoff event was a bonafide hit last night, it's safe to assume that your entire New Times staff is having just a little trouble getting into work this morning. Between the event itself and the after-parties that followed, this might have been one of our best Iron Forks yet.
Good on us, and good on you that came out to enjoy it.
So now that we have about a 12-14 hours to recoup before the weekend starts, we first want to give you a couple options. Because what's better than a great party during the week? More great parties during the weekend.
As of last night, Miami Spice is officially underway. The easiest way to go about this two-month event is by check out this list first: Miami Spice restaurant participants 2013. Then, go down the list and check off the restaurants that you've never visited because you felt it was above your price point. Then go down the list and check off the restaurants you've been meaning to try, but for no reason in particular, haven't gotten the chance to make it yet. The two lists that result will be your priority list of restaurants that you need to get to while Miami Spice lasts (August 1 to September 30). Ice Cream, Tableside at Edge
You're hot, and the 85 percent humidity that Miami flaunts around during the summer doesn't make it any better. Luckily, Edge Steak + Bar at the Four Seasons Miami has your back. Right now, you can head for a deeeeeeeelicious Sunday brunch at Edge, and whether or not you've had your fill of the delectable desserts from the buffet, you can have your own personalized ice cream cone made tableside. A liquid nitrogen cart will be making the rounds and offering all the makings for your perfect ice cream cone. Pick your flavor, pick your booze, and watch it made right before your eyes (it only takes 20 seconds). It'll be the best thing you see on four wheels all summer long.
Ready for something supremely weird? The Bazaar Noir at Grand Central is a spectacle unlike any other where attendees are submersed in a night-long, 360-degree immersive discovery experience. It combines worldly oddities, unique live talent, and ambitious (understatement of the century) culinary and cocktail creations. Los Chamos' menu of shark tamales, frog wontons, and shrimp and ostrich stuffed plantains might make you question your conventional palate. Wash it down with Dos Equis cocktails and nibble on chocolate-covered scorpions for dessert. It's safe to say that when Miami heard that its beloved Acme bakery would be closing doors, a collective sigh took over the city. Its former space in Midtown, still vacant, and a ghostly reminder of the days that once were, will hopefully make way for something to fill the void in our hearts. But until then, we can rely on a weekend pop-up at Tropical Park this Sunday. They'll be offering hand-forged kettle donuts, fried to order, as well as scones, biscuits, jams, and pickles.
