Billie Joe Armstrong, the energetic and iconic lead singer of Green Day, is taking a little time off after what 's being called a "meltdown" at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

Today, Billie Joe checked into a substance abuse treatment center. And while a statement from the group's representatives provides no details about which substances the singer may be abusing, it seems to Crossfade that he's just reconnecting with the true essence of punk badassery.

The Green Day frontman capped off his band's performance at the pop-filled festival in Vegas this weekend with a stream of expletives, unnerving some crybaby members of the audience.

"You're gonna give me fucking one minute?" the singer asked. "Let me fucking tell you something, let me tell you something. I've been around since fucking 198-fucking-8, and you're gonna give me one fucking minute? You've got to be fucking kidding me?"

He goes on to say, "I'm not fuckin Justin Bieber, you motherfuckers" and the F-word a total of 16 times. He ended the unholy message by smashing his guitar to bits à la Mick Jones and throwing the microphone to the floor.

This incident follows an extremely raw performance at the VMAs during which Billie Joe invited the crowd to crash the stage as he furiously played amid the insanity.

Some may consider this kinda behavior to be the cry for help of a madman gone astray. But we call it the totally boss stand of a man who refuses to be anything less than a punk rock bastard.

Up the punks, fuck the pricks. Keep smashin' guitars, Billie Joe. We're fuckin' with you.
