The Brickell location serves the Yuz-on-Fire and the Wasaaaa B!; each features distinct ingredients such as cucumber, Japanese yogurt-soda, and lime juice. The $5 food menu highlights unique rolls such as the Budda-Cane and El Chulo Camaron. Small bites such as calamari, sushi tacos, and Kobe sliders round out the menu's variety.
The Scene: Sushi Maki sits on Brickell's busy South Miami Avenue. The restaurant hugs a corner lot, and despite its narrowness, it still feels rather comfortable. On our visit, most guests sat outside on the lounge-style patio. The servers were knowledgeable of the menu and provided efficient and friendly service.
The Wasaaaa B!, a cucumber-based cocktail, tasted like a liquid salad. The Yuz-on-Fire was made of a Japanese yogurt-soda that did not taste much like yogurt or soda. The curiosities continued thanks to sushi rolls topped with guacamole, tomatillo salsa, and sugarcane soy. Instead of being an exploitation of the liver, Sushi Maki's happy hour is an exploration for the taste buds.
Conclusion: The unique drinks can be hit or miss with some palates but are worth trying at least once. The ambiance is perfect for those looking for bustling surroundings.
