Granted, we don't need to give Miamians much of an excuse to stay out late on Saturday and sleep in on Sunday morning. But if you're not running the Miami Marathon and live around the affected area, it might be the best to stay in.

The annual marathon will close some of Miami and Miami Beach's busiest roadways for hours from Sunday morning until early afternoon.

Here are the major roads that will be affected:

  • Biscayne Boulevard up to NE 15th Street
  • MacArthur Causeway
  • Alton Road
  • Fifth Street (Miami Beach)
  • Ocean Drive
  • 15th Street
  • Venetian Causeway
  • NE 15th Street from Venetian Causeway to Miami Avenue
  • Miami Avenue between NE 15th Street and Flagler
  • SE and SW Second Avenues
  • Brickell Avenue
  • Bayshore Drive
  • Mary Street
  • Grand Avenue
  • Commodore Plaza
  • Rickenbacker Causeway

Basically, traffic in these areas could be affected long before and after their official closure times. So to play it safe, try to avoid all affected areas if you can from 5 a.m. to at least 1 p.m.

And here's the timeline of when roadways will be affected:

  • Starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, northbound traffic on affected areas of Biscayne Blvd. will be funneled into one southbound lane.
  • At 10 p.m. on Saturday, no northbound traffic will be allowed on the Brickell Bridge. Traffic will be routed west on SE Seventh Ave. Exceptions will be made for residents of Epic, One Miami, Miami Center, InterContinental Hotel, and businesses around the area. Other downtown residents should check their building for information about access on Saturday night and Sunday morning.
