What's the best vinyl in your collection? Do you have a collection? It's OK if you don't 'cause it's never too late to start.
For me, it's a copy of 1956's Elvis, the King's second LP. Aside from the music being timeless, the record was one of several that my grandmother brought over from Cuba when she moved to the U.S. in 1959. It was also one of the first records I remember listening to as a child.
Fact is, records rock. If you're over the age of 25, vinyl records probably played a role in your life.

Kiki Sanchez Trio. Friday, April 13 at 7 p.m., Alliance Française (618 SW 8th St, Miami). Free. Class it up with some jazz standards and red, red wine at the South Florida French Language and Cultural Center.
Orbweaver, Slashpine, The Tunnel, and Organic Machines. Friday, April 13 at 10 p.m., Beelzebub's Cave (164 NW 20th St, Miami) $5. DIY metal shows. It doesn't get any gnarlier than that, Miami.
Xperimento. Friday, April 13 at 10 p.m., Cabaret Stage at Tobacco Road (626 S Miami Ave, Miami). $5. How often do you get to see a Grammy-nominated act for the price of really cheap cigarettes? Exactly. This is your chance, people.
Hunx and his Punx. Friday, April 13 at 9 p.m., Churchill's Pub (5501 NE 2nd Ave, Miami). $8. Seth Bogart's back in Miami, eye-fucking cute boys and golden showering anyone who'd let him.
PeachFuzz Fridays. Friday, April 13 at 11 p.m., The Garret (697 N Miami Ave, Miami). Free. Party like we're under the Clinton administration, y'all.
The Vinyl Collective Pop Up Record Shop. Saturday, April 14 at 7 p.m., 171 NW 23rd St, Wynwood. Free. It's all about vinyl, baby. Buy, see, trade, and listen the way it should be.
MAM Family Festival: "Spin it!" and Vinyl Swap Shop. Saturday, April 14 at 1 p.m., Miami Art Museum (101 W Flagler St, Miami). Free. Teach kids about the beauty of vinyl records, learn to scratch, and tour The Record: Contemporary Art and Vinyl.
Vinylmania. Sunday, April 15 at 2:30 p.m., Sweat Records (5505 NE 2nd Ave, Miami). Free. Sweat's hosting a screening of Vinylmania, a new documentary about records. Oh, there's free beer while it lasts.
Kickball with DJ Care Bear. Sunday, April 15 3 p.m., Tobacco Road (626 S Miami Ave, Miami). Free. If you're a sucker for jean vests and tummy symbols, this event will be right up your alley.
