Support the independent voice of Miami and help keep the future of New Times free.
This week, we're interviewing our local culinary superstars up for James Beard Awards. This is the first year the foundation has released its "long list" of semifinalists, stretching out the waiting period one more month. On March 22, restaurant and chef finalists will be announced with nominees for cookbook,
design, and journalism. The gala will take place at Avery Fisher Hall in New York
City.
First up, Michael Schwartz and Hedy Goldsmith of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink, named among the best restaurants in the nation by the New York Times. This dynamic duo has been working together for more than a decade. They now belong to a very small contingent of chefs and pastry chefs from the same restaurant who are both up for awards.(Editor's Note: Jackie Sayet, who did this interview, is a longtime Short Order contributor who now works with Michael Schwartz)
Keep Miami New Times Free... Since we started Miami New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Miami, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Miami with no paywalls.
