As if getting pounded 10-1 last night by the Milwaukee Brewers to keep the worst record in baseball wasn't bad enough for the Marlins, a Miami police officer shot and critically wounded a man just outside the ballpark shortly after the game began.

The shooting, which was related to a drug investigation, prompted fans to wander past a taped-off scene and a full police investigation after the game.

Details are still slim on what sparked the shooting. Around 7:45 p.m., about a half-hour after the first pitch, officers stopped a car at NW 17th Avenue and Third Street, near the stadium's southwest corner.

Officers were conducting a "narcotics investigation," says department spokeswoman Officer Kenia Reyes, which went awry after they ordered a man out of a car. When the man made a sudden move, the Miami Herald reports, police shot him.

The suspect, who hasn't been named yet, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with critical injuries.
