Miami is a city that loves brunch, and though there's a plethora of omnivorous options for everyone's favorite meal, vegans have a limited assortment of late-morning bites.

Luckily, come Sunday, May 31, vegans and omnivores alike can indulge in the inaugural Vegan Smart Brunch, hosted by "Bad Ass Vegan" John Lewis. The free event will feature Smart Vegan smoothies and shakes, food by local restaurant Vegetarian by Hakin, and yummy edibles from Daiya and Beyond Meat.

Vegan Smart is an all-in-one nutritional shake that offers all the important amino acids, nine fruits and veggies, 22 vitamins and minerals, fiber, omega, probiotics, and digestive enzymes — basically, everything any vegan needs.

"The Vegan Smart brand has been embraced by the Miami and South Florida community, and we wish to return that love," spokesman Martin Ekechukwu says of the upcoming brunch. "With Miami as a leader in the East Coast for health and wellness, it’s the perfect backdrop to celebrate our journeys into getting healthier and being healthier. The Miami culture is fun, exciting, and truly invigorating. We love the people."

The Bad Ass Vegan was a perfect fit for the brand's message, he adds.

"We have always said that Bad Ass Vegan plus Vegan Smart equals Miami vegan life. Miami vegan life celebrates all there is to offer in a healthy Miami culture. It’s the perfect formula, and Bad Ass Vegan creates the three-legged stool to really push and encourage all people no matter where they are in their healthy journey to come together and reach for their health goals."

The brunch is designed to be all-inclusive — i.e., not just for vegans, but for anyone and everyone who's interested in a healthy lifestyle.

"This is a culinary and healthy-living celebration brunch," Ekechukwu says. "We will be serving vegan food only, but actually this is an event to introduce a new healthy lifestyle to all people of all food interests. You would be surprised at the creativity that goes into vegan dishes to make them absolutely tasty! The restaurant Hakin has been gracious to cater our brunch, and their food truly brings flavor and taste to the forefront. You don’t have to lose out on taste to be vegan."

DJ YNot will be there to curate the music selections, so it'll be a Miami-inspired afternoon all the way.

The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Maps Backlot, 342 NW 24th St., Miami. Admission is free, but attendees must RSVP via vegansmartbrunch.eventbrite.com.
