Eddie Jackson Jr. was once a father figure to a budding basketball genius named LeBron James, but he missed out on a chance to watch LeBron's debut in the NBA. Instead, he reported to the state pen to serve a three-year term for bilking more than $775,000 in a mortgage scam. After LeBron's mother broke up with Jackson, his life has spiraled into a series of drunk driving arrests and fights with police.

Jackson's latest arrest came early this morning, when he was booked on suspicion of drunk driving in South Beach. He showed the officer his NBA championship ring and told the cop about his relationship to the Heat superstar when he got pulled over.

Jackson was booked around 4 a.m. today when an officer on patrol near 20th Street and Washington Avenue noticed his white Mercedes convertible nearly fly through a red light before screeching to a halt in a crosswalk.

When the officer pulled him over, he noted Jackson had "watery, bloodshot eyes" and "slurred speech." The cop soon confirmed that Jackson's license was suspended from a series of recent drunk driving arrests.

The 47-year-old told the officer he worked at a nearby club and showed him a permit that let him drive during work hours.

"He said that he primarily lives in Ohio and that his son is LeBron James of the Miami Heat," the officer wrote in an arrest form. "He showed me an NBA championship ring he was wearing."

When Jackson refused to do a breath test, the officer arrested him.

It's just the latest trouble for LeBron's ex-stepdad. He was charged with drunk driving back in Ohio as recently as this past September, and the year before that kicked out the windows in a police cruiser after another DUI citation.
