Kings of Leon is fresh off of a recent pigeon poop scandal in St. Louis that caused them to cancel their show. We say scandal because a lot of news outlets were outraged and fans confused when after just three songs, the band decided to stop playing because a few pigeons had pooped on them mid-set a week and a half ago.
They've lightened the mood for fans, though, and have officially announced that they'll release their fifth studio album, Come Around Sundown, on October 19.
They've been performing some of the new songs from the album on tour all summer, including temporarily titled tracks "Radioactive," "Mary," "The Immortals," and "Southbound." A prediction of their September 17 show in West Palm Beach? We sure hope so! And we hope Cruzan is prepared in case some pigeons make an appearance.
The 13-track album -- a follow-up to 2008's hit Only By the Night -- will show off the band in a bit of a departure from their traditional sound, adding a trumpet, lap steel, and even a fiddle to
some of the songs on the album.
Frontman Caleb Followill mentioned to NME:
"If we were to go out there and play a concert and not play new music, it would feel like we had our hands tied... I think we would be bored with the show... We didn't want to go back out there and give 'em the Only By the Night tour, part two. It's inspiring to be able to go out there and play new songs. Not only are you testing the songs out on the crowd, but we have that, 'Oh, shit!' moment when we're looking at each other. Are they gonna like this? Are they gonna sit down because it's not "Use Somebody"?"
Kings of Leon has described their new album as "chilled out" and "beachy." They haven't been out here in a few years, but we can't help but hope that South Florida was that very "beachy" inspiration.
