According to Miami Gardens Police, the incident happened at around 8:45 p.m. last night. A car described as a light-colored, four-door sedan, possibly a Buick Regal, pulled up and opened fire on the car. Bailey and Reeves were shot. The other passenger and the two children were unharmed.
The incident happened in front of a residence in the 19800 block of NW 38th Place. The location is just a five-minute drive from the Miami Dolphins' Sun Life Stadium.
NBC Miami obtained footage of the black SUV Bailey was in at the time of the incident.
The victims managed to drive themselves to Jackson Memorial Hospital but were then transported to Aventura Hospital.
“We are aware Stedman Bailey was involved in an incident this evening," the Rams said in a statement issued late last night. "We have spoken with Stedman and he is in the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. We are gathering facts about the situation and will provide updates as we learn more."
After starring at Miramar High, Bailey was recruited by West Virginia where he set the single season record for receiving yardage and tied for most touchdown receptions in a season. Bailey would forgo his senior season and was drafted by the Rams in the third round of the 2013 draft. His time in the NFL has been rocky. He was suspended four games last season for violating the league's performance-enhancing substances policy, and again this season for violating the substance abuse policy.
