Last night, the Prodigy posted a statement on Facebook saying its upcoming Ultra performance, which was slated to happen on the Live Stage tonight at 11, would be canceled.
"The Prodigy are very disappointed to announce that they will not be performing at Ultra Music festival on Saturday night," the message read. It went on:
Due to doctors orders Maxim has been unable to travel nor perform in Miami this weekend resulting in the cancellation of The Prodigy performance. The band would like to apologise to all their fans.Ultra has yet to announce who will be replacing the Prodigy's 11 p.m. slot. We'll update the post when more information becomes available.
From Liam Prodigy - ‘We are all gutted about this, we were ready n fired up about comin to play Miami Ultra, I can’t even remember the last time we had to pull out of a show. We will be back to play in the USA as soon as possible’
This performance would have marked a rare U.S. appearance from the band, who helped to popularize the sounds of the U.K.’s rave scene in the country's culture back in the '90s. Best-known for 1997’s The Fat of the Land, an album made controversial by its single “Smack My Bitch Up,” the Prodigy's fast-tempo songs and high-energy performances have earned the group a cult following courtesy of vocalist Keith Flint and Maxim.
The Prodigy's last performance at Ultra was in 2009 at Bicentennial Park (known today as Museum Park). During that show, the band came close to canceling due to a delayed flight but managed to get into the city just in time for its scheduled slot.
