Animal Love Affair: Female Wolf Has Crush on Panama City Family's Pet Dog
Someone call up Pixar, because boy do we have a situation definitively calling out for some sort of animated movie treatment here in Florida.
You see, a female wolf has been hanging around the yard of Panama City resident Nathan Didier. The reason? Didier suspects the lady wolf is lonely, and has a bit of a crush on his pet dog Louie, a springer/lab mix.
According to The Panama City News Herald, the wolf may not be full blooded. Animal control officials suspect that one of the canine's parents is a wolf, while the other could have been another canine, perhaps a domesticated dog. Wolfdogs aren't all that uncommon. There are as many as 300,000 in America, and they're often kept as exotic pets.
Animal control director Bill Olasin believes this particular wolfdog may have had previous contact with humans, though she does appear skittish. She'll let people get within about five feet of her before taking off.
While Didier is sticking to his love theory, he has also admitted to feeding the wolfdog in the past. But he's worried she isn't eating as much and could become more aggressive with hunger.
Obviously, we prefer the love affair theory.
Imagine the movie: a little wolfdog runs away from her abusive owner and tries her hand at living in the wild, like her wolf father. Though, she ends up being rejected by the wild wolves and develops a love affair with a domesticated dog. The two meet in secret, but our domesticated dog is a too afraid to bring his wolfdog love home. So instead she just sits outside of his home, longingly looking at domesticated life until she's ultimately caught by animal control. Finally, our male dog realizes he can't live with out her and develops a plan to spring her from the pound.
It's got everything: love, obsession, identity crises, allegories for racism, redemption. Why isn't this a movie yet?
