Happy Friday! This weekend is a big one with so many major events colliding.
May is National Hamburger Month, and Miami's own Burger Beast is celebrating by hosting his very own Hamburger House Party.
Mother's Day is Sunday. Whether you've got a mom or are a mom, brunch with lots of bubbly is in order. If your kids have four paws and tails, there's a special sundown happy hour celebrating your furkids.
Saturday is Brew at the Zoo, Miami's biggest and best beer festival, featuring 100 delicious beers for you to sample and the ability to get up close and personal with wild creatures.
Finally, Saturday is also the Kentucky Derby, so break out your best hats and sip some bourbon while you cheer your favorite 3-year-old to victory!
Weekend starts now!
Martini Shake Off With Chamucos Tequila at the Raleigh Miami Beach Hotel
If you didn't get your fill of tequila at last evening's Cinco de Mayo party, head to the Raleigh Hotel's Martini Bar tonight, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. for its monthly cocktail competition. This time, bartenders will make drinks with Chamucos tequila. Four cocktails and their creators will battle it out, with the winning drink named the Raleigh's cocktail of the month. You'll be able to sample all cocktails (on a first-come-first-served basis), and full-size versions cost $10 each.
Hamburger House Party
May is National Hamburger Month, so you know Miami's own Burger Beast has to throw a blowout party in honor of the occasion. Tonight, May 6, from 7 to 10 p.m., the Beast will throw Hamburger House Party, complete with music, drinks, and the opportunity to sample 20 burgers from South Florida's best beef palaces. Try burgers wrapped in bacon, stuffed with mofongo, and slathered with secret sauces. Tickets for this 21-and-over event cost $45 and include unlimited sampling of all 20 burgers, along with desserts and cocktail sampling from Jim Bean and Tito's Vodka, soft drinks, and water. Purchase tickets at hamburgerhouseparty.com.
Yappy Hour at Lique
Sunday is Mother's Day, but if you're a mom to the furry, four-legged kind of kid, head to Lique Miami Waterfront Restaurant & Lounge (3957 NE 163rd St., North Miami Beach) Friday, May 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. for a special Yappy Hour to celebrate dog and cat moms. Donate $30 to the Humane Society of Greater Miami and you'll get two drink tickets and hors d'oeuvres. Plus, the patio is dog-friendly, so you can even celebrate with Fido!
This Saturday, May 7, the world's fastest 3-year-olds will race in what's called the fastest two minutes in sports. If you can't get to Churchill Downs, get to Wynwood Diner ( 2601 NW Second Ave.) at 4 p.m. for a Kentucky Derby Garden Party, where you'll chow down on traditional Southern fare such as deviled eggs, bourbon-glazed brisket sliders, and mini crawfish po'boys while sipping Woodford Reserve mint juleps. The big race will be shown in the backyard, along with live entertainment by the French Horn and DJ Self Born. Wear your best Derby attire — hats, seersucker suits, and bow ties — for a chance to win prizes in the best-dressed contest.
