Does Miami Beach even realize how lucky we are to have the Miami Beach Cinematheque right in it's backyard? The central nervous system of Miami's art house film obsession has flowed through the velvet carpets on their walls, and placed itself firmly in their comfortably padded chairs for the past 20 years.
In honor of this past Sunday's Academy Awards, MBC honors the best films to win awards. No, that doesn't mean they're going to break out the 3D IMAX projector to play Alonso Cuaron's stunningly-beautiful yet completely-pointless special effects porno-flick Gravity.
Instead, MBC brings the true Academy Award gems to Miami audiences, namely the nominees in the short live action and short animated films, which includes winners Helium (winner in live action) and Mr. Hublot (winner in animation). Friday, there will be an encore MBC screening of Foreign Language Film Oscar winner The Great Beauty (La Grande Bellazza).
