GableStage's disturbing and fascinating Blasted swept up five bronze rings this week at the 35th Annual Carbonell Awards held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Sarah Kane's polarizing play that features rape scenes and dead babies picked up awards for Best Director (Joseph Adler), Best Production, Best Scenic Design (Tim Connolly), Sound Design (Matt Corey) and Lighting (Jeff Quinn).

Not to be left out, the Actors' Playhouse also picked up a handful of Carbonells for their production of Miss Saigon.

Best Director, Musical went to David Arisco, while Herman Sebek won Best Actor in a Musical. Eric Alsford earned a Carbonell for Best Musical Direction. The only non-Blasted/Miss Saigon South Florida winner went to Gregg Weiner who picked up a Best Actor in a Play award for his portrayal as Adam in Fifty Words. Nine out of twenty Carbonells for the South Florida theatre scene? Not too shabby.

Best Production of a Musical: Mack and Mabel, Broward Stage Door Theatre

Best Director, Musical: David Arisco, Miss Saigon, Actors' Playhouse

Best Actor, Musical: Herman Sebek, Miss Saigon, Actors' Playhouse

Best Actress, Musical: Tari Kelly, Anything Goes, Maltz Jupiter Theatre

Best Supporting Actor, Musical: Nick Duckart, Dr. Radio, Florida Stage

Best Supporting Actress, Musical: Lisa Manuli, Motherhood the Musical, GFour Productions
