Despite his decidedly dark portrayal in HBO’s The Girl, Alfred Hitchcock will forever be known as a cinematic treasure. From Psycho to The Birds, Hitchcock’s oeuvre makes the master of suspense a hard figure to dismiss, even if he was nearly as creepy in real life as his film villains. Celebrating his undeniable contributions to filmmaking, Coral Gables Art Cinema (260 Aragon Ave., Coral Gables) closes out its Forever Hitchcock series Thursday with Rope at 6:45 p.m. and Shadow of a Doubt at 8:30. Rope follows two college students (and implied lovers), Brandon and Phillip, who strangle a classmate and host a party where guests unknowingly mingle around the hidden body. Shadow of a Doubt keeps the chills coming when Uncle Charlie, possibly a serial widow-killer, pays his extended family a visit. Tickets for the showings of the digitally restored films cost $11.50.
