DJ DB hit New York City from London in 1989 with a determination to turn clubheads on to his country's blooming underground music scene. It didn't take DB long to deliver early drum and base, jungle, and breakbeats to clubs such as Brilliant and NASA (which was featured in the movie Kids). DB also was instrumental in promoting music outside the clubs. Joining forces in 1996 with DJs Dara, Paul Morris, and Sean Shooter, he opened Breakbeat Science in the East Village, the first U.S store dedicated to drum and bass; from 1993 to 1997 DB served as A&R director of sm:)e communications, which launched the History of Our World jungle series. Today DB co-runs the electronic music label F-111, and is still cruising on the heels of his 1999 mix CD Shades of Technology, which is number four on Mixer Magazine's list of 1999's best albums. Join DB at Mission (637 Washington Ave., Miami Beach; 305-534-5420) on Saturday as he heats up the decks with R-Fresh, Ash-Rock, Teknik, Kaprah, and Element. Call for cover charge information.
