When someone says beach bum, you might have visions of sandy-haired, Hawaiian-shirted transients, but from now on, we want you to know that South Florida Beach Bums are even cooler than you think. The semipro baseball team is made up of former and current collegiate baseball players who have proven just how un-bummy they are by reigning as South Florida Baseball League champs for the past two seasons. And today the guys are hosting their second annual Beach Bums Golf Classic, a chance for the good and the no-so-good to show off their best swing.
We like to say its a golf tournament for everybody, says the Bums president and general manager, Charles Sano. Its all about having a good time. You have some really good golfers out there and some guys who just want to have a good time. For the good golfers therell be prizes for the winning team and the longest drive, and the not-so-good golfers can still be winners in the ugliest golf game or highest score categories. But for everybody there will be free drinks (booze and nonbooze), goody bags, and an afterparty. The almigh-tee fun starts at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Club of Miami. Visit www.southfloridabeachbums.com for registration information and entry fees.
