Though every day should be Earth Day, we make a concerted effort to celebrate our awesome blue-green planet only once annually. Given that all she asks for are 24 hours out of 365 days, it’s tough to make any excuses. You know deep down there’s no reason you can’t pitch in and show Mama Earth some love. This year, why not give it a go as a Urban Paradise Guild volunteer at Arch Creek East Preserve? Slip on some gardening gloves, help remove exotics, and prep for native habitat planting. You’ll be protecting the preserve — good karma for sure. Also, the group has volunteer opps every single day, in case you can’t make this one. The session kicks off at 8 a.m. Tuesday at NE Second Avenue. Visit urban-paradise.org.

Keep Miami New Times Free... Since we started Miami New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Miami, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Miami with no paywalls.
