Pop Goes the Crunk

When Southern crunk pioneers the Ying Yang Twins yelled out, “Skeet! Skeet!” in their 2003 hit “Get Low,” middle America took it as cutesy hip-hop slang like bling or hooptie. Actually, skeet means male ejaculate. No kidding. But when L.A.’s DJ Skeet Skeet assumed the name, his explanation was a bit more innocent. Trevor McFedries was nicknamed Skeeter Valentine by a friend, which evolved into Skeet Skeet thanks to his affinity for Lil Jon’s crunk hits. As a DJ, McFedries has been tearing up the Hollywood, California nightlife scene since 2006, when he met future pop superstar Katy Perry. He’s featured in her California Dreams tour, which will float into South Florida next weekend. But before bringing the dream to the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Skeet Skeet will trek down to LIV.
