Its reasonable to say you havent seen classical ballet until youve seen it danced by classically trained Cubans. For one weekend in May, Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami (CCBM) performs Paquita Suite and the company premiere of La Fille Mal Gardée, two ballets of French origin. Launched in 2006, CCBM brings together a cast of strong dancers, many of them born and raised in Cuba and trained at the countrys National Ballet School. This ensembles principal dancers visit from the top ballet companies in the United States.
San Francisco Ballets Lorena Feijoo and Vitor Luiz, American Ballet Theatres Xiomara Reyes, and former Miami City Ballet dancer Rolando Sarabia lead the cast. Through CCBM, artistic director Pedro Pablo Peña aims to preserve the classical ballet repertory for which Cuba is known and to showcase the expressive and virtuosic talents of Cuban dancers in exile. Cuban Classical Ballet of Miamis Program I-II shows at 8 p.m. this Saturday and 5 p.m. this Sunday at the Fillmore Miami Beach
