Reside in South Florida long enough and you’ll eventually get hit by a mango falling from a tree. That’s some pesky squirrel’s way of telling you that mango season is here again.
Surely by now you know the best way to eat a mango (naked in a bathtub), but what else do you know about this fragrant, juicy fruit?
Whatever your answer, you’ll want to check out Mango Mania at the Fruit & Spice Park (24801 SW 187th Ave., Homestead) Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Park experts will give you an overview of everything mango-related. You’ll learn how to grow and graft mango trees, how to troubleshoot diseases and identify and eradicate pesky insects, and how to distinguish hundreds of mango varieties.
Mango Mania isn’t all talk, though. You can sample these luscious fruits until your arms and clothes are covered in juice (wait until you’re home to get naked with your mango, please). Traditional Asian sticky rice with mango will also be served for your mango-loving pleasure. And if you still haven’t gotten enough mango, you fleshy-citrus freak, the nice people at the Fruit & Spice Park will give you a tour of their grove, containing 160 mango varieties.
