Once you’ve felt the weight of 24-karat gold on your earlobes, it’s tough to go back to rockin’ the stuff that turns your listening machines green. Same goes for diamonds — after you’ve had a chance to dig into the Queen’s jewels, CZ will never look or feel the same. So instead of settling for what you can afford, lace your neck, ears, and wrists with some DIY baubles.

ArtCenter/South Florida (924 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach), the hub of everything artistic in SoBe, routinely offers classes in everything from Photoshopping to calligraphy. For $55 ($45 for members), instructor Leslie Lacombe will teach you how to create an amazing bracelet made of Czech fire-polished beads in the new Bead Weaving Workshop. You’ll be able to take the skills you learn and use them toward other types of wearable art, but from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., keep your eye on the task at hand. It’ll be worth it. If chains are more up your alley, join the Jewelry Creations Workshop Chainmaille class from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For $150, you’ll get materials and instruction by jewelry guru Steven Brownlee and leave with a piece that exhibits the ancient technique of chain making. Time to give Jared and Kay a break and wear your own trinkets.
