When you consider the size of the gay community in Miami Beach and its carefree, socially liberal reputation, it’s hard to believe the city has never hosted a Gay Pride festival. But that’s all changing this month, and the Black and White Circus Ball, a comedic sketch and improv show hosted by the Theatre Institute of South Florida, looks to be the perfect way to get the party started. The press release describes the production as “the gayest show in town” and as a “circus gone wrong,” featuring acts such as a “retired fire eater” and “a singing hairy duo.”

“It’s a bearded lady and a ballerina together, and they’re singing,” show organizer A.J. Prats replies when pressed for details.

Prats also booked performances by two of the area’s most iconic drag queens: stand-up ace Daisy D and pop diva sensation TP Lords. For the long and the strong, there’ll be a post-show party at the museum and an afterparty/festival kick-off beginning at midnight at Twist (1057 Washington Ave., Miami Beach).
