Ever feel as if something is missing as you drive past the neon lights on South Beach? We're not talking about soul searching. We're talking about the nightlife.
There are plenty of bars and clubs in Miami, but one thing our city lacks is classy cabarets. But soon, it shall lack no more. Opening tomorrow night on the sweet streets of SoBe is The Cabaret South Beach.
Renowned nightlife promoter, businessman, and co-owner of the new venue Edison Farrow says The Cabaret will "add a missing element to South Beach nightlife." He said he's always dreamed of opening a live performance venue that reminds him of his days growing up in New York, where he would frequent piano bars and cabarets.
Farrow's dream could come to fruition when The Cabaret South Beach opens its doors this week. He explains that everything about the club is meant to add to the overall experience. "All of our bartenders and servers sing, and many also play instruments including piano, drums, saxophone and guitar."
"The vibe is very a cozy, urban, downtown Manhattan [type]," describes Farrow. "Some nights," he continues, "[will] turn into crazy jam sessions where every member of our cast joins in on the improv performance."
If there's one thing Farrow says guests will be impressed by - aside from the décor - it's the talent. He promises many surprises and "unexpected guest performers, musicians, burlesque dancers - there are more tricks up our sleeve."
Speaking of the performances, Farrow wants to make it clear that "this is not your father's karaoke bar!" He has been scouting for talent in South Florida for a long time, he says: "Only skilled, trained, talented singers will be performing here." About 60 people audition for The Cabaret, he estimates, and "the most difficult part was deciding who we had to turn down."
So what will a typical Cabaret evening entail? Farrow explains so suavely that we can't help but imagine him wearing a fedora, with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. "Dimly lit crystal chandeliers will illuminate the room as the piano player plays the white baby grand Knabe piano." The "cast" of bartenders and servers will entertain the crowd from all corners of the room. "There will be unexpected moments when people appear singing from unexpected places in the room or behind the bar or from some secluded corner."
