Your rebel spirit will atrophy and crumble into a cloud of dust if you don’t feed it. The meal to save that shrinking segment of your soul: like-minded people who are resistant to the big-box theories of American culture. There’s no better place to meet these kindred spirits than at the Black Mangrove Collective. Built on the idea that activism and creativity are the building blocks to a fully functioning society (read: one that dares to venture beyond clubland), the BMC is always chock full of folks gingerly shoving spoonfuls of progressive ideas down your throat. Their latest exhibit is Future Shock! From 8 to 11 p.m., view a collection of pieces that use video, sculpture, interactive, mixed media, and photography treatment to explore how society is transforming at a rapid pace. If you have beef with the state of political, social, and technological change, show up. If you’re fine with it, spend the evening reading Twilight. The exhibit is up till Saturday.
