Not to worry -- you’ll have the pleasure of mingling with gentler critters on the Matheson Hammock wading tour, during which you’ll learn all about Biscayne Bay’s tidal flats and mangrove-lined forests. You can get to know your local fish, crabs, aquatic plants, wading birds, and maybe even spy an endangered crocodile in this vital coastal habitat.

Wear an pair of ratty sneakers, and don’t forget your bathing suit for a refreshing dip in the park’s beautiful lagoon afterward. The one-hour tour begins at 9:00 a.m. and costs five dollars per person, plus four dollars per car for park admission. Waders will meet at the sailing school, located at Matheson Hammock Park and Marina, 9610 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables. Reservations are required. Call 305-662-4124, or visit www.miamidade.gov/parks.
