Here, near the edge of the American continent - latitude 25 47'16"N, longitude 8013'27"W to be exact - the people are always tan, the sun never stops blazing, the hot black streets breed mirages, the water stays perfectly warm, and the beach party is eternal. It's a subtropical phenomenon called Miami's Endless Summer.
But even in paradise, it has to get dark sometime. So this Friday as night takes hold, swells of surfers, skaters, hip kids, beach bums, and bands will abandon the sand and migrate inland to Little Haiti's most sacred spot, Churchill's Pub. Led by local duo Deaf Poets, the summery soundtrack will cut from blissed-out to sun-scorched with sets from Teepee, Lil' Daggers, the Jameses, and a dozen others. Now listen closely and you might actually hear the crashing sound of cresting surf.
