April is here, and that means Miami is saturated with poets and their varieties of verse during the O, Miami Poetry Festival. To kick things off, O, Miami will present one of its biggest events ever: a poetry wallcast. Much like the screenings of classic films in the park or live performances by the symphony, this wallcast will be the first event of its kind. The people at O, Miami have lined up some of the most distinguished writers in America to read at the event, featuring two former U.S. Poets Laureate — Robert Hass and Kay Ryan — and National Book Award winner Nikky Finney. If you’re not especially familiar with those titles, they’re basically two of the nation’s highest accolades for writers. Before the readings commence, the park will be abuzz with activity, from poets writing poems to order on portable typewriters, to food venders making all sorts of grub, to a large-scale version of something called “Bananagrams,” which is apparently quite popular. The merriment will be made from 5 to 8 p.m. this Saturday at SoundScape Park at the New World Center (500 17th St., Miami Beach), and the readings will begin around 8. Visit omiami.org.
