Its the sort of fame trajectory that every party DJ covets. Josh Young and Curt Cameruci began spinning in Chicago in 2006 as the DJ duo Flosstradamus. Their Get Outta the Hood party was so popular it burst the seams of their local bar, forcing them to take their sound national. Soon after, Vice Records commissioned them to compose a mixtape, and in 2008, Rolling Stone named the pair Best DJ. Flosstradamus, which just finished performances at SXSW, will spin at LIV this Wednesday for Poplifes Dirty Hairy party.
In many ways, Miami provides the perfect audience for Flosstradamus. The hipsters here arent content with merely bobbing their heads; they want to dance. Flosstradamus mixes club music and skanky R&B tunes with indie rock hits. Theyve mashed Kayne West with Sigur Rós, Full Force with Bloc Party, and Daft Punk with Jay-Z. In 2008, they released their first original track, Big Bills, with vocals by Chairlifts Caroline Polachek. Youve likely heard it on WVUM 90.5 FM, where its gets plenty of airplay.
