In 1995, a legendary Miami bass group by the name of 95 South released a song called Rodeo. The lyrics went like this: Come on get wild, girl. Ill be the horse and you can be the cowgirl. Do any of yall bareback-riding, tie-down-roping drill teams know what were talkin about? We thought so. Its time for the 60th annual Homestead Championship Rodeo. Yee-haw!
The rodeo officially kicks off Friday at 8 p.m. with Tough Enough to Wear Pink Night. In an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer research, everyone from the toughest cowboys to volunteers and participants will rock the typically feminine shade. But make no mistake the rodeo is still for those with true grit. Blood is sure to spill on the arena floor when a slew of top contestants and brave contenders stomps through Homestead in one of the national rodeo circuits first get-downs of the year. This is the big roundup, cow folk, so load up on Bud, Coors, or Miller and bring your whole flock to Doc DeMilly Rodeo Arena, on the corner of South Dixie Highway and SW 312th Street, Homestead.
