Life as a kid isn’t what it used to be. Instead of climbing trees and playing foursquare (the IRL kind), they’re glued to their glow screens. Hence America’s seriously scary health stats. But SEEK (Seeking Education Empowers Knowledge) is all about inspiring young people to get off their rears. The group, which helps empower and support youths through a host of programs and services, will hold its second-annual Get Hip & Fit Fair to spur kids out of inactivity.
The free four-hour showcase will feature food, live tunes, and good-for-you diversions that won’t bore Generation Z. Best of all, kiddos will get the chance to join a mini football camp with players such as Miami Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon and NFL veteran Lousaka Polite. There will also be a group fitness demo, health screenings, a cooking experience with Dwyane Wade’s personal chef Richard Ingram, a raw/vegan demo with celeb chef Lauren Von Der Pool, a silent auction, a bounce house, a hacky-sack competition, tug-of-war, and other fun stuff that has it over killing time on Twitch any day. Because who are we kidding? Kids will listen when NFL players and celeb chefs tell them what’s what. Their parents? Not so much. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. this Saturday at Williams Park (1717 NW Fifth Ave., Miami). Admission is free. Visit seekedu.org or call 786-378-9702.
