Drag, Art, and Sushi

Lincoln Road ain't exactly known for its good deals or cutting-edge art. Can you say overpriced restaurants and Romero Britto? But don't let the rule get in the way of the exception. This Saturday at 7 p.m., at least part of South Beach's pedestrian sanctuary will look more like Wynwood's art walk when ArtCenter/South Florida hosts its annual art raffle extravaganza, “Winning Art!” The exhibit showcases work from the gallery's 40 artists-in-residence, who have each donated a piece for the fundraiser. That means 40 chances to walk home with an original for the cost of a $10 raffle ticket. There will also be a silent auction for a seven-day cruise, as well as gift certificates for restaurants, salons, and personal training — the trifecta of the South Beach lifestyle. And none other than Miss Fabulous herself, Elaine Lancaster, will MC the event. Included with the raffle ticket are complimentary cocktails plus drinks and eats provided by Sushi Samba, all set along the backdrop of Lincoln Road with a local DJ spinning. It might feel like the prototypical SoBe outing, but the chance to leave with art and a belly filled gratis make the event a unique one on the Beach's crowded calendar.
