Sean Dorsey is intrigued by tales of love, especially as told by members of an aging gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer (GLBTQ) community. And why not? Those are the stories of people who would have lived through some of the most traumatic, closeted, secretive, and yes, exciting, times in 20th-century American history. So the director and choreographer of the San Francisco-based Sean Dorsey Dance troupe took to the streets of his own city and Boston to record those stories for a two-year project that would end up being The Secret History of Love. The Secret will be revealed through dance this Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Colony Theatre in a poetic blending of oral histories, heartbreaking affairs, and contemporary dance movement. As part of the third annual Out in the Tropics GLBTQ performance festival — a boundary- and sometimes mind-bending series — it should fit right in.
Sat., May 12, 8 p.m., 2012
