Miami's food scene never sleeps, but this past June, it felt like it needed a nap, a hug, and maybe a stiff drink. Sure, there were some big wins: Eataly Aventura finally opened to massive crowds (and even more massive cheese wheels), Chop Steakhouse & Bar brought prime cuts to Coconut Grove, and Buenos Aires' world-renowned cocktail bar Presidente set up shop in the 305. Huey Magoo's made its long-awaited Miami-Dade debut in Palmetto Bay, a full-circle moment for every Orlando chicken tender loyalist who now calls South Florida home. But as exciting as the new arrivals were, they couldn't quite soften the sting of the gut punches that followed.

Let's not sugarcoat it — June might've been one of the most brutal months for restaurant closures that I've seen since I started working at New Times in December 2023. EntreNos, one of the most inventive spots in the city that even holds a Michelin star, quietly served its final dinner at Tinta y Café on June 30. La Mar by Gastón Acurio, a beloved mainstay on Brickell Key for more than a decade, called it quits, although it plans to resurface somewhere else in Brickell. Ms. Cheezious, the OG of grilled cheese on Biscayne Boulevard, was forced to shutter after the building was sold. And that's just the beginning.

RedFarm in Coconut Grove? Gone. Sardinia in Sunset Harbour? Closed after 20 years. Sereia in the Grove? "On hiatus," but we all know what that usually means. Even Michelin-star-adjacent names couldn't escape the chopping block: Torno Subito Miami, the rooftop stunner from chef Massimo Bottura, closed for a summer reset on June 29. If you're counting, that's nearly ten closures in one month alone, and not a single one was small. These were neighborhood anchors, destination restaurants, and institutions. So let's pour one out, celebrate the newcomers, and take a closer look at what we gained, what we lost, and what's next in Miami's ever-evolving culinary rollercoaster.

Miami Italian restaurant Sardinia closes in Sunset Harbour, Miami Beach, after 20 years in business, known for its Sardinian food, bolognese, and wine.

Closures

Char Hut Pembroke Pines: After nearly 30 years of flipping burgers in Pembroke Pines, the Char-Hut on Taft Street has officially closed its doors. The fast-casual favorite, known for its no-frills, made-to-order burgers and retro vibes, broke the news via Instagram. The reason? New building ownership and a lease that won't be renewed.

EntreNos: The Michelin-starred Miami spot held its final dinner service on Monday, June 30, ending its run at Tinta y Cafe. What started as a short-term arrangement turned into something bigger when Michelin recognized their work in 2024 and 2025 with both a One-Star and a Green Star for sustainability. However, according to an Instagram announcement, both businesses have grown to the point where sharing space no longer makes sense.

J28 Sandwich Bar
: After nearly 12 years of serving Peruvian street food in the heart of Hollywood, family-run sandwich shop J28 Sandwich Bar has permanently closed. The beloved eatery, best known for its chicharrón sandwich and its spotlight on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, served its final meal on Sunday, June 1 — and it had no choice but to close.

La Mar Miami by Gastón Acurio: La Mar in Brickell Key has closed after 11 years, but chefs Gastón Acurio and Diego Oka are looking forward to the future. The hotel and restaurant closed on Saturday, May 31, and the restaurant printed its final check for a guest on Thursday night.

Ms. Cheezious: Once only a food truck parked outside of the former J. Wakefield Brewing in Wynwood (RIP), the grilled cheese restaurant that became an instant classic in Miami has bad news to share. The sandwich shop announced via Instagram that its last day of service in MiMo was on Thursday, June 12, due to the sale of the building currently housing it.

RedFarm: Less than 18 months after opening, Chinese restaurant RedFarm has closed in Coconut Grove after generating initial buzz. The restaurant, popular in New York City for its "Pac-Man Dumplings," pastrami egg rolls, and Peking duck dinner, closed on Sunday, June 29. It seems the restaurant couldn't live up to the hype of its NYC counterpart.

Sardinia: After two decades of wood-fired pizzas, salt-baked branzino, and pours from one of the most impressive wine lists on the Beach, Sardinia has closed its doors. The Sunset Harbour staple served its final meal on Father's Day after 20 years in Miami Beach, bowing out with a heartfelt but cryptic farewell on social media: "It's the end of an era."

Sereia: Sereia, the modern Portuguese-inspired restaurant tucked away at the southern edge of the Grove, closed its doors on June 1 for a hiatus. The restaurant announced the news over Memorial Day weekend, leaving fans heartbroken, yet, perhaps, a little hopeful.

Torno Subito Miami: The highly anticipated rooftop Italian restaurant from world-renowned Chef Massimo Bottura has temporarily closed, but promises to return stronger than ever. Opened in August 2024 to considerable buzz atop Julia & Henry's food hall in downtown Miami, the restaurant announced it would take a "summer pause." It held its last day of service on Sunday, June 29.
