Certain restaurants and shops in Miami have defined their neighborhood. Take, for instance, Fireman Derek's in Wynwood, which has been around for over a decade, and Michael's Genuine in the Design District, which is nearing its 20th anniversary in two years.

Another staple that is an iconic fixture of its neighborhood is Ms. Cheezious. Once only a food truck parked outside of the former J. Wakefield Brewing in Wynwood (RIP), the grilled cheese restaurant that became an instant classic in Miami has bad news to share.

The sandwich shop announced via Instagram that its last day of service in MiMo will be on Thursday, June 12, due to the sale of the building currently housing it. The statement reads, "After over a decade of melting for you in MiMo and creating unforgettable memories, we have some news to share. Our beloved restaurant will be closing its doors at this location due to the sale of the building. Our last day of service in MiMo will be June 12." The shop will be closed beginning Friday, June 13.
The caption continues, "We cannot express how grateful we are for your support over the past ten+ years. Each visit, each meal shared, and each smile has meant the world to us. You have become a part of our family, and we will cherish these memories forever. But this isn't the end! We are building out a new location and actively searching for other locations where we can continue to serve you the cheesy goodness you love. If anyone has any leads on available locations, please email us or send us a direct message!"

Fans immediately took to the comments, with some writing, "Truly end of an era, will miss having you guys so close."

Miami's Iconic Grilled Cheese Shop Helped Transform MiMo

The brand, known for its punny name and indulgent sandwiches, launched in 2010 as a blue food truck slinging inventive takes on the classic grilled cheese. Since then, it's become a fixture of Miami's casual dining scene, earning accolades including a spot on Food Network's list of Top 25 Food Trucks and multiple wins at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

The location that is closing was its first brick-and-mortar, which opened on February 1, 2015, on Biscayne Boulevard in the heart of Miami's MiMo District. It quickly became a local hangout for nostalgic comfort food with a twist, with standout menu items include the "Frito Pie Melt," made with house chili, American cheese, jalapeños, onions, and Fritos on sourdough, and the fan-favorite "BBQ Pulled Pork Melt," layered with sharp cheddar on thick Texas toast.

Ms. Cheezious also gained a loyal following for its catering services, bringing its cozy bites to all, no matter the occasion. Whether grabbing a late-night bite, bringing out-of-towners for a quirky Miami food experience, or ordering catering for events, the brand has long held a special place in the community’s heart.

Beloved by locals, chefs, and foodies alike, Ms. Cheezious managed to be both playful and comforting, a rare blend that turned grilled cheese into a culinary haven. Its influence extended beyond the food scene, often featured in travel guides and foodie blogs as a quintessential Miami stop.

What the Future Holds

Until a new location is secured, Ms. Cheezious' famed grilled cheese sandwiches will continue to be available for delivery and pickup, which can be accessed through its website. Plus, Ms. Cheezious' food trucks are currently available for catering and events.

In the meantime, Ms. Cheezious is inviting customers to share tips on available properties as they scout for future storefronts. While details surrounding the building's sale remain unclear, one thing is certain: Ms. Cheezious isn't disappearing — it's simply ending a chapter.
