A wildly popular international Korean fried chicken chain known for its juicy and crunchy fried chicken drumsticks is heading down to South Florida for the first time in its history. The first stop? Miami.

Famed Korean fried chicken chain Bonchon is opening its first South Florida location in Miami Beach on Wednesday, December 18, just in time for snowbirds flocking to Miami for the holidays.

The company announced that its franchising numbers in 2024 have been "through the roof" and anticipates growing from 145 locations to 500 across the U.S.

Real estate media site Traded reports that the company has signed a lease at the Moxy Miami South Beach hotel along Washington Avenue. While there's no official opening date yet, besides one on Google for December 18, Bonchon's website already shows the 915 Washington Ave. location as "coming soon."

What's All The Fuss About This Fried Chicken?

Founded by Jinduk Seo, "Bonchon" means "my hometown" in Korean, as the founder wanted to share a taste of Korean comfort food with the world.

While the business was born in 2002 in Busan, South Korea, Seo perfected his sauces and signature flavors and brought them overseas to New York City. Soon after, the hand-battered, double-fried, and hand-brushed chicken became popular in the Big Apple.

As the business grew, so did the brand, which expanded and franchised over the years. Its latest report shows more than 430 locations in nine countries, including Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore, Cambodia, Myanmar, France, the U.S., and Vietnam, and it is projected to grow to 1,000 locations worldwide in the next five years.

Soon, Miami will get to try some of its signature Korean fried chicken, so here's what to look for on the menu: Start by picking what type of chicken you prefer. Guests have a choice between wings, drumsticks, a combination between both, strips, or boneless. Then, the most important choice is the sauce, and guests can choose between the soy garlic, spicy, and Korean barbecue (or choose two and get half and half).

The menu also offers a selection of starters like bulgogi fries, potstickers, shrimp shumai, takoyaki, and bao buns; main dishes including bulgogi (marinated beef), japchae, chicken katsu, bibimbap, and house fried rice; and for dessert, the restaurant serves Korean donuts coated with cinnamon and sugar and served with a sweet cream dipping sauce.
