Every edible item has its day of celebration: popcorn, burritos, even Fig Newtons (January 16, in case you were wondering). But some foods are so special, so memorable, so irresistible they get a whole month of commemoration. Grilled cheese is one such food. And April is its month.
After all, who doesn't love cheese paired with bread? It's an eternally irresistible combination with almost endless incarnations. And luckily for the grilled-cheese lovers of Miami, there are plenty of good ones to choose from. Here are five that are worthy of your rapt attention.
Truffle butter makes everything better, including grilled cheese. Pair it with lots of cheddar, plenty of provolone, and some Roma tomato, and you'll be giving thanks to baby Cheesus.
Gooey is a really, really good thing when it comes to melted cheddar. Michelle Bernstein's grilled-cheese creation includes white cheddar cheese smooshed between two slices of butter bread.
Thick, buttery bread and copious amounts of white cheddar, Brie, and Gruyère oozing outside their boundaries are the earmarks of this creation. Such a gluttonous abundance of dairy delight is the perfect way to pay tribute to the medium.
This epic creation at the cozy little midtown haunt comes complete with provolone, spicy chorizo, and arugula on hefty country white bread. Trust us -- you'll never go back to American again.
Fruit and cheese are even better together after they've taken a turn on the grill. This food-truck favorite is an amazing combo with spiced apples and Havarti cheese on multigrain bread. Apples mean it's totally diet-friendly, right? Right.
