Last week, New Times announced Uber and car rental company Turo were teaming up to bring an exclusive pool truck pop-up experience to Miami for Labor Day weekend. The premise? Exactly what it sounds like: A pool inside the bed of a pickup truck, parked at Bayside.

Though it sounds like an idea that could have only been concocted here, the companies picked two cities for the holiday pop-up: Los Angeles and Miami. Our truck is still rolling into town, but L.A. got its pool party last weekend.

The West Coast got one perk Miami won’t see: a special appearance from Love Island’s Leah Kateb, who dipped her toes in and answered a few pop culture questions in a video for Uber.
Kateb’s video, and others taken by attendees, offer an IRL glimpse at what the pop-up will look like when it drives into Miami this weekend. Up until now, only renderings were available.

Guests access the pool via a separate wooden ladder, and the truck is covered by a canopy. The attraction is adorned with floaties and plants, and there’s even a sitting area with lounge chairs, coffee tables, and throw pillows.
The companies created the oddball experience to celebrate Turo rentals being made available directly on the Uber app.

The experience quickly sold out after push notifications went out last week, but Uber users can join the waitlist. A rep for the company told New Times that even if you can't snag a waitlist spot, you're free to show up to check out the pool truck pop-up and grab a popsicle and merch.

Niraj Patel, Uber's Global Head of Consumer Vehicles, told New Times Miami was "a natural choice for this campaign," partly because it's "known for its iconic pool party scene."

And by the way, if you're slogging through summer and think a pool truck sounds like a great idea, Uber says you should not go the DIY route. "This experience involves a custom-built pool mounted on a pickup truck, operated solely while stationary under strict conditions and not intended to be driven," the company warns. "Do not attempt to recreate this setup."
