Fall is here and it’s time to gear up Miami. In the next few months, we’ve got plenty to look forward to – Thanksgiving, Art Basel, and the holiday season.
But now, take a few breaths before the madness starts and have dinner outside, enjoy some beer with friends, or scarf down tacos and tequila for a good cause.
The weekend starts now!

Giralda Under the Stars
Giralda Under the Stars returns to the City Beautiful for the 2015 season. On Friday, November 6, from 7 to 10 p.m., Coral Gables’ Giralda Ave (between Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Galiano Sreet) turns into a pedestrian mall, with over a dozen restaurants hosting al fresco dining. Instead of cars, the streets will turn into sidewalk cafes where diners can enjoy food and wine, live music, and drinks. Participating restaurants include
This is also the first time that Giralda Under the Stars goes green! In partnership with GreenLife Miami, the event, now in its seventh year, will now feature sustainable, healthy, and organic food options along with a greener atmosphere. Admission is free, pay for what you eat and drink.
7-Eleven
This Saturday is 11/7 and that means 7-Eleven is celebrating with its Name Your Own Price Day. Just walk into your nearest 7-Eleven and pick up a Slurpee of any size. Then pay the nice person at the counter whatever you want for that frosty, cold beverage. Not so fast with the penny, my friend, because 100 percent of proceeds will go to Feeding America and its local member food banks. So give generously. Whether you pay a quarter for that Slurpee or leave a crisp one hundred dollar bill, that’s probably going to be the warmest brain freeze you’ve ever had.
FIU South Florida Brewfest
Florida International University hosts its fourth annual Brewfest this Saturday, November 7, from noon to 4 p.m. at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus. South Florida’s best breweries, and homebrewers will showcase nearly 75 craft beers, including many rare brews. Breweries include Brew FIU, Wynwood Brewing, Homesick, Darwin, Sea Dog, Native, Orlando, Saltwater Brewing, MIA, Legacy, Funky Buddha, Concrete Beach, Gravity Brewlab, the Tank Brewing Co., and many more. Tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door ($15 for current FIU students, $25 for FIU faculty and alumni). To purchase tickets, visit hospitality.fiu.edu.
Bond Brunch at Bagatelle
James Bond has taken over Miami. To celebrate the release of the spy’s new movie, Spectre, Bagatelle is hosting a special Bond brunch on Saturday, November 7, with Belvedere vodka cocktails, martinis, and plenty of surprises (think plenty of Bond girls and villains dancing to DJ Vincent Daubas). The brunch is from noon to 6 p.m. After brunch, Bagatelle invites you to go home and get cozy in your jammies and then return on Sunday for the sleepover-themed brunch and do it all over again.
TNT Showdown
This Sunday, November 8, from 6 to 9 p.m., a dozen of Miami’s favorite chefs will team up with some of South Florida’s best bartenders at the Vagabond Restaurant & Bar for the Taco & Tequila (TNT) Showdown. That equates to a dozen different tacos by the likes of Brad Kilgore (Alter), Ramiro Ramirez (Taqueria Morelia), Chef Bee (Oishi Thai and NaiYaRa), Aaron Brooks (Edge Steak and Bar), Jeremiah Bullfrog (GastroPod), Todd Erickson (HuaHua’s Taqueria), Richard Hales (Centro Taco), Niven Patel (Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink), Giorgio Rapicavoli (Eating House), Steve Santana (Taquiza), and Alex Chang (Vagabond). In addition, BC Tacos food truck will be parked outside the Vagabond to round out the evening. Each chef will be paired with a bartender, who is tasked with making a cocktail pairing using a unique tequila or mezcal.Tickets for the TNT Showdown are $65 in advance, $70 at the door and can be purchased at Eventbrite.com. The TNT Showdown, by the way, is a 21-and-over event.
