At Alter, chef/owner Bradley Kilgore serves some of Miami's most exciting food. Come for the well-known soft egg, an à la carte menu item that pairs sea scallop espuma and truffle pearls with Siberian caviar. Here, the former J&G Grill executive chef has partnered with local food enthusiast and hedge-fund risk manager Javier Ramirez to give Wynwood a welcoming restaurant that doesn't trade refinement for the surrounding neighborhood's cool factor. Sure, there are no white tablecloths, and everything from reggae to rock blares over the sound system, but that says little about the quality of the dishes, such as the grouper cheek, which arrives over forbidden wild black rice and shoyu hollandaise with sea lettuce and cucumber.
