Street festivals are oftentimes more than outdoor parties. They can be amazing exhibitions of local artists, smorgasbords of a wide array of delicious eats and drinks, and, most important, great unifiers of the community. A good street fest can bring citizens together in celebration of the things that make their town special. Now, Miami can boast a new festival in one of the most popular parts of the city with Wynwood Life, a three-day festival of art, music, food, and fashion. The aim is to give local artists an ample venue to showcase to the people of Miami and earn their just desserts. To properly showcase that goal, the festival is to be commemorated by the painting of an inaugural wall by Trek6, one of Miami’s most celebrated graffiti artists. The mural will also serve as the main poster art for the festival, which will feature numerous local artists, many of whom hail from some of Miami’s most established crews, as well as a long list of talented local musicians. Organizers have also brought in the Congolese-Belgian hip-hop artist Baloji as the first musician to perform on one of the two stages that will be set up over the three days. Wynwood Life will liven the streets this Friday through Sunday along NW Sixth Avenue between 22nd and 24th streets (between I-95 and the Wall of Fame). Tickets start at $8. Visit wynwoodlife.com.
