Just like gamers, sci-fi freaks, and hackers, anime enthusiasts are more than just a little dedicated to their hobby. They have an encyclopedic knowledge of their favorite shows, dress up as characters, and speak in jargon that sounds like, well, Japanese to us outsiders. But whether or not you’re into anime, you can head to the Yasumicon Fifth Annual Japanese Animation Convention at FIU University Park Campus for entertainment galore.

The two-day event (organized by the Anything Goes Anime Film Club) will feature video game tournaments, food, music, and all sorts of geeky fun. One of the highlights will be the cosplay competition, in which participants dress up as their favorite anime characters and perform skits. Be sure to check out musical guests Artbeat and Select Start. You can experience Yasumicon from 10:00 a.m. to midnight today, and noon to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
Sat., Aug. 11, 10 a.m.-11:59 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 12, 12-6 p.m.
