Every summer since 1952, South Floridians have made a play date with the annual David Deal Playday for hours of city-sponsored fun in the sun. This year Fort Lauderdale Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Black Entertainment Television’s Rap-It-Up Campaign, a partnership that will pair entertainment with HIV/AIDS awareness. If you’re cringing at the thought of roasting under an unforgiving July sun, think about the cool comedy show, as well as the bid whist and dominoes tournaments. And when you think of the concert featuring the ubiquitous T-Pain, R&B groovester Avant, and über-cutie Sammie, you’ll forget all about the heat.

While you’re drooling over the celebrity sightings, Sammie will be focused on the all-important message for youth to “Rap It Up.” “I think we’re put in a position where everybody watches what we do and actually listens to what we say, so why not say something positive that can be heartfelt and that can actually save and change lives?” he says. Hear him tell it to you today at noon at Joseph C. Carter Park.
