By swapping corsets for flapper dresses and dependence for confidence, the 1920s cultivated a “new breed” of women. The mission of Dress for Success Miami is similar. After 20 years of helping more than 50,000 underprivileged women gain financial independence by re-entering the workforce, the organization will present this Saturday’s Gangstas, Gals and Glam anniversary gala not only to commemorate past successes but also to promise more. From 7:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., the elegant Rusty Pelican ballroom (3201 Rickenbacker Cswy., Key Biscayne) will host a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, dance, and silent auction. Items up for bidding include 2015 Grammy Award tickets, a pasta-making class led by Miami’s renowned Chef Nunzio, and exclusive music memorabilia. Also under the hammer will be an original gown made by Miami-based fashion designer Julian Chang. Among the sea of silk ties and pearl necklaces will be honorary chairs Maritere and Jon Secada, as well as honorary chairwoman Star Jones. Other special guests include NBC 6 anchor Trina Robinson; actress, TV host, and entrepreneur Adriana Cataño; and lifestyle director for Antena305.com, journalist, and correspondent for CNN Español Paula Lamas. Tickets cost $500 per person or $5,000 per table. Call 305-444-1944, ext. 306, or visit dfsmiami20.eventbrite.com. Opportunities for sponsorship begin at $7,500 and can be arranged through Sonia Jacobson by emailing [email protected].
