Contemporary Choreography

If Swan Lake is not your thang, you may want to give the Ballet Gamonet a whirl. The locally based dance troupe is shaking things up with Program 4, which is sure to thrill your cultural senses. Among the current offerings are two duets. Purple Bend II features same-sex duet dancing, (Patrick Swayze sat this one out), and the world premier of A Mi Lado (“By My Side”), which was originally choreographed by a seventeen-year-old Jimmy Gamonet.

The world premier of William Soleau’s piece, In Passing, will feature eleven dancers twirling around a theme of being born, passing through life, and moving on. The Florida premier of Angels in the Architecture by Mark Godden includes dancers’ movements that embody Shaker beliefs and furniture influences (yes, you read that right). We won’t give it all away here, but brooms are involved. Catch the good, clean fun tonight.
