If you’ve ever looked at shipping containers lined up at the port and thought, It’d be really great to gather a dozen people, break into one of those, and enjoy a weirdly awesome night of performance with a group of Spanish actors prone to traipsing around former brothels, you’re (A) a cultural genius and (B) going to love Microteatro por Dinero at Centro Cultural Español Miami (1490 Biscayne Blvd., Miami). The concept started in Madrid, where a group of actors took over a former bordello in a seedy part of town and turned the rooms into mini-theaters, spreading word of intimate shows through social media. In Miami, the actors will perform in containers, each a maximum of 150 square feet, and present nine plays that are each ten to 15 minutes long and feature three performers. A maximum of 15 spectators can attend each show, in which actors interact with the audience, and the shows run six times each night, on Thursday from 8 to 11 p.m. All plays are staged around the concept of por dinero (“for the money”).
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8-11 p.m.; Sundays, 6-9 p.m. Starts: April 5. Continues through April 29, 2012
